Recently Reed Gratz was added to the Advisory Board of The American Jazz Institute.
Who is Who? As further indication of academic excellence at the University of La Verne, the 2002 edition of Who is Who Among America's Teachers includes Reed Gratz, Harvey Good, Richard Gelm, Jeffery Burkhart, Daniel Campana. They were among those chosen by National Dean's List students asked to nominate "one teacher from any year of their academic career who made a difference in their lives by inspiring interest in a subject, shaping their values, or challenging them to strive for excellence." (ULV Voice Januari 2003)Reed Gratz received these awards earlier in his career; Who's Who in the West,(US), 1987 and Who's Who in America, 1989,2002, and 2004.

Dr. Reed Gratz, Professor of Music, has been invited to teach an American Music and Culture class at the Chinese Sichuan University. The invitation comes through his Fulbright at Leiden University in the Netherlands where Dr. Gratz had eight Chinese professors of English in his American Music and Jazz History classes. Professor Gratz continues to encourage UVL faculty and students to apply for Fulbright grants and reminds us that through the efforts of Phil Hoffer, and hosed a Fulbright scholar from South Africa during April 23rd 2003.

Reed taught Jazz History, American Music,

and African American Music at the University of Innsbruck (Austria)

on a senior Fulbright Professorship during the fall/winter semester 1991-2.


In 1984, Reed was awarded a Jazz Composition Grant

from the National Endowment for the Arts.


In 1982, the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded Reed Gratz

with a grant to study African American Music at Harvard University.
